!Noweyr: an explosive tale

[img[Start game|https://docs.google.com/uc?id=1TettDXr_10KPb-mUIXngDggWRopbFNqI][Power:controlRoom]]
<span id="text"> You look upon the familiar sign on the door, that reads “control room” as you open the door and enter. The lights of the panels are blaring at you in a flashing kaleidoscope of reds and greens with the occasional blue dashing through. You look upon the photo that sits at your desk, it was taken 2 years ago when you first started working for Noweyr’s Nuclear Power plant. It was taken on your first day, with Henry, who has been your best friend for years now. He even helped you get your current job but now he is now working for the government.Since then you have become accustomed to the lights flashing before you, that beat to their own rhythm.
As you sit down at your desk there is a new flashing light you notice out of the corner of your eye. </span>
[[Power:flashingLight<-Let's take a look.]]
[[Power:ignore<-It's probably not important.]]<<silently>>
<<set _move = "You walk to table and take place with your colleagues. Slowly the canteen is filling with people and growing noisy. Since it's friday everyone tells their plans for the weekend. When it's your turn you get excited. Your friend Henry invited you to hike in the weekend. Since Henry left the power plant to work for the government you don’t spend that much time with him anymore. So you were stoked when he told you about a nice spot in the forest near Heyr and wanted you to come along. After your work for the day is done, Henry would meet you in the city and you would go to the forest. \nAfter finishing telling about past adventures, you notice that you left your lunch in your car. A quick look on the clock tells you that you still got some time left to get you lunch from your car and rejoin your coworkers. After you apologize to the others, you leave for the parking area.\n\n">>
<</silently>>The time flies and when you look up from your monitor it's already 12 o'clock. Some of your coworkers are getting ready for lunch, so you decide that it's a good time for your lunch break. Sitting for hours made your body stiff and your head heavy. You stretch your arm while standing up and feel a bit of the stiffness lessen.
You take your bag and join your colleagues. You're the last to walk through the door. When you close the door, the corridor fills with silence. You stand there for a moment embracing the silence and giving your head some rest. Then you follow the rest to the canteen. When you arrive, no one else is there yet, so you can choose where you want to sit.

You notice that there are some glue residues left where the label should be. As you re-examine the room you have spent hours in, you realise that this is the only light that does not have a label. As you venture off to go find the instruction manual you pass by the computers and you check the graphs there. There was an odd spike in the pressure graph but you choose to ignore it as you know that can quite often be the case, for pressure can be rather unpredictable sometimes.
With the instruction manual from the 90’s, ladened with dust, stretched across your hands, you try and find the purpose of the flashing light that has been dormant since you started this job. After flipping page after page you notice that the numbers of the pages do not add up. As you flip one page back and forth, noticing that the page goes from being 45 and then the next page is labeled 49. You see that three pages have been ripped out.
[[Power:Lunch<-Bummer, let me continue at my desk.]]

<</silently>>When you arrive outside you notice that the sun finally broke through the clouds. When you arrived in the morning the sky was still clouded.
Your car is in sight, as you pass the long rows of cars belonging to your fellow workers. Parking has always been a difficulty at the power plant and luck was not in your favor this morning as you encountered every red light getting to work. Thus being forced to park in the outlying dregs of the car park.
A blinding white light pierces your vision.
The air rushes past you as you are hurled across the carpark. The tarsal surging towards you like a slow-motion clip, where disaster is inevitable.
The pain cleaves through you, slicing down into your bones, as your body scrapes across the ground like a rag doll.
Lying in a fetal position, you see a new series of flashes coming from the power plant. Pure hydrogen must have leaked from the cooling tanks, for in an instance you see the power plant engorged by flames. Twisting, withering, contouring reds and violets, interchanging, as belching flame erupts from the windows and back door. Smoke black as night joins in the fray, as the power plant turns into a raging ball of flames. Glass and steal become shrapnel, a deadly rain is unleashed upon the car park. Car alarms wail chaotically accompanying the choir of sirens blazing in the nearby town of Noweyr.
Projectiles break from the billowing smoke screaming into the sky and cascade throughout the car park and farmers fields beyond. Your eyes become deadlocked on a piece of debris hurling its way towards you.

You want to leave the place as quick as possible. In the past there were multiple explosions at nuclear power plants and every time a high dose of radiation was launched in the air. As you look around you see all kind of damage to surrounding cars. Broken glass everywhere, doors pierced by pieces of concrete and tires deflated by pieces of glass. As you look at your own car, the amount of luck you had becomes apparent. The piece of concrete in your car made it all the way to your trunk, just shy of piercing through your rear window. This means you’ll have to get to the city by foot. You open your trunk to take your hiking pack, but there’s a surprise waiting for you: The concrete pierced your backpack. Fortunately you still have the small backpack you take to work and there is enough space for 5 items left.

You take your Geiger counter out and hang it around your neck. When you look at the gauge you see that the needle is deep in the red area. You think back at the radiation training you had when you started working for Noweyr’s nuclear power plant. //You remember that you should never enter area’s with radiation in the red zone, since those have an atrocious effect on your health. Radiation within the orange zone should be avoided as much as possible, but is tolerable for short periods of time. Green levels of radiation are relatively safe, although being exposed for too long is never desired. It’s important to check the level of radiation regularly to be sure you won’t die of radiation poisoning.//
You start walking to the exit of the parking lot, pondering over how the hydrogen could have leaked and if that mysterious light, that was flashing in the control room, might have anything to do with it. As you close your distance to the exit a loud roaring sound is coming near. You stand still in your tracks and look where that sound may come from. After a few seconds you recognize that sound, It’s the sound of a truck the military uses.

When you take a closer look you notice that there is not only one truck but a whole nuclear disaster response team. The soldiers are wearing some kind of hazmat suit. They look like the ones also used in the power plant: A yellow overall, blue gloves, black boots and a military grade gas mask.
As you watch the spectacle before you, you wonder how they got there so quickly. The explosion happened only a few minutes ago. Maybe the strange light you saw in the control room alarmed the military. You don’t get much time to wonder since there is a soldier coming towards your location.

As you hide behind a car, the soldier comes closer and closer. He’s looking around—probably for survivors. When he’s only a few meters from you, he suddenly stops. Your heart skips a beat; did he notice you earlier? What will he do if he finds you here? You look quite suspicious hiding behind a car. Just as your head starts imagining the worst case scenario, the soldier starts walking again.
Phew he didn’t notice you. He continues walking until he’s halfway across the car park. You keep hiding behind the car, doing your best to not make a noise.
The soldier is talking on his radio. You can’t quite make out what he’s saying, but he’s apparently ordered back since he’s walking back to the provisional headquarters. You’re still not sure if they only have good intentions.
You look around if there is any other way out of the car park except past the soldiers. Not far from you there is a hole in the fence. The shock wave from the explosion pushed a car through the fence, conveniently leaving a hole to slip through.
Now you have the choice: Either go through the fence to avoid any trouble the soldiers may provide; Or go to the soldiers in the hope that they can help you.

It’s important now to put some distance between yourself and the soldiers, since you don’t know what they’re up to. The forest between the power plant and Noweyr should provide a safe way to travel. It’s the same forest you were supposed to hike in during the weekend.
As you check your Geiger counter you see that the radiation is lower than at the power plant. The thick roof of leaves must have caught most of the radiation. You begin making your way through the bushes. It doesn’t take long until you find a trail in the forest. There is also a sign showing the way to Noweyr. If you remember right, Henry told you about a shortcut through the forest which would reduce your walking time by half, although you have to be careful since there are some tricky parts inside the forest.

Carefully you lower your feet in the water and make your way through. On the other side your throw your backpack on the riverside and climb out of the water. In the camp you can see clearly how much hatred is manifested in the people. The soldier are shooting rubber bullets at the people, in hope of deterring them; although it has little effect. You decide it’s best to wait inside with the others until the truck arrives.

The military camp seems like a safe option. It will most likely be protected by soldiers, so you won’t get harmed. Outside you look for a way to travel around the large mobs. You spot a small alley at the other side of the road. You hurry to the alley, but try to look inconspicuous. After you made sure no one is following you, you go from alley to alley. It doesn’t take long until you see the evacuation camp. The rioters are attacking the camp in waves. When they seem to back out for a moment, you walk quickly to the nearest soldier. You have your pass ready to signal your good intent. You tell him that you want to evacuate with the truck that’s supposed to arrive today. She then takes a look at your pass and let’s you [[enter the camp.->City:wakeUpCamp]]
After a quick discussion, you decide it’s safest to move through the alleys and avoid the main roads.
Since Monika’s house is near the edge of the town, you only need half an hour to reach the bike. “Here this is for you,” with those words Monnika hands you a helmet. While you’re busy trying to put the helmet on, she already steps on the bike and starts the motor. “You ready yet,” she teasingly utters. With a grin on your face you hop on the back and off you go. Even though you’re wearing a helmet you can feel the wind in your face. This feeling of freedom brings you in a trance like state. When you snap out of it, you can see the city of Someweyr rising up at the horizon. You finally made it.You decide that it’s best if you left the city alone. It’s easier to adapt to the environment and you can travel faster that way. Your first objective should be to reach the edge of the city and see what to do from there. You can see a quiet alley in front of you. When you enter that alley, you hear fighting close by. You hurry further in the alley. You know roughly where you are and go from alley to alley until you reach the edge of the city. You ended up near another evacuation checkpoint into the city. the fighting here is pretty bad; some of the rioters are even armed. You have to get through this checkpoint to leave the city. You keep your distance from the fighting and inch closer to the checkpoint. With only a few meters to go, you decide to run as fast as you can through the checkpoint. You hear some soldiers yelling, but you don’t care; you have to leave the city.
The yelling suddenly stops and you hear a small bang. You look around and see that you made it through. After a few seconds you feel a sting in your abdomen. You feel your belly and notice a warm substance:blood. You sink to the ground, feeling the energy draining from your body. “I was so close to leaving all the trouble behind, ” you think. You lay on the ground, closing your eyes. There is no point in struggling. You accept your fate and think about all the fun moments you had at the power plant; with your coworkers, your friend Henry and even with the old white haired man. A grin forms on your face thinking about your past. Then you feels your muscles slouch and your mindering. Then you fall asleep. You could go and look for Monika, the woman you saved yesterday, and see if she also plans on leaving the city. With her bike it will be much easier to reach Someweyr. You have to move around the mob. You decide to stick to the alley that are throughout the city. You spot an alley across the road and move to it quickly. By sticking to the the alleys, you get to Monika’s house unharmed.
When you arrive at her house, you knock on the door.
Monika, a bit startled, opens the door. You tell her that you plan to leave the city and wondered if she was also planning on leaving. “Yes, i planned on leaving in a few minutes. If you wait here I’ll grab my stuff and we can go to my bike.” You do as you’re told and wait at the door. It doesn’t take long and she’s with you, ready to leave.

You decide to go closer to the erupting army base that has befallen the field behind the car park.
Standing face to face with a giant white dome.
Inside are armored vehicles, unimogs and a handful of soldiers.
You count 5 trucks, maybe 30 soldiers walking around, most in Hazmat suits and gas masks like the one you saw previously. All carrying guns, All wearing gas masks.
All the soldiers near you get called over to go to a meeting in the largest unimog.
You decide to hide your backpack in the bushes and slip under the clear dome tent as soon as the last soldier went into the meeting.

“If found please return to Mr Grey at 24 Jacksons Road, 8042 Heyr”
[[Grey<-You leave your room in the middle of the night and go to Mr Grey’s house]]
[[Grey<-Go to sleep and then go to Mr Grey's house in the morning]]
After leaving your room you grab a fresh change of clothes and head off into the city with your backpack.
The address is about an hours walk away but time flies by as the anger in you fuels each step you take.
In the back of your mind finding answers is not going to truly solve the problem.
Thousands are already dead or now have shortened lives.
But even in knowing that you want answers.
You want the truth.
After some time had passed you arrived at the address and knocked on the door.
A familiar door, one you knew the location of but never the address...
You knew the feel of the old wooden door knob to the faded flaking red paint... the old dog door that always stays shut…
dog door…
dog door…
Henry had a dog two years ago.
A big dog with long grey hair…
Henry Grey...
While standing and facing the door, your raging fire had gone out.
It had been replaced by a biter cold enveloping you.
In that instance you felt no love, no joy only the sense of bitter betrayal.
[[open<-check if the door is locked]]
[[open<-open the door]]
[[open<-smash the window and climb through the window]]
As you enter the hallway of his house.
“HENRY!!!!!”
You scream at the top of your lungs.
You no longer care if anyone is after you, you are a hollow shell.
It feels as though your heart is being ripped from your skin while you are being flayed alive.
Raw.
Your emotions are fleeting in a dark psychedelic pitfall of anger, rage, sorrow, and you settle into a hollowness of betrayal.
You walk past his hallway mirror and you no longer recognize yourself.
Your eyes are blank and clouded over as you realise the immense lies he has told you. The deceit he has created and the murder he has committed.
You wonder if he is even human, if he deserves to be called human.
You hear a noise in the back room.
[[backroom<-Go to the backroom]]
A calm settles on you.
You have come down from your high of emotions and see clarity as you stare at Henry.
You look him in the eyes and you see fear and anguish in those golden brown eyes crested with blue hues.
You trusted and believed in him.
He was your best friend.
He still is your best friend. You are desperately trying to cling onto any hope that you are wrong.

[[gun<-“I love you like my brother, you are the best thing that has happened to me too”]]
From his mouth spews a high pitched laugh of a psychopath, it chills you to your bones.
“This town is filled with criminals and the poor.
They are a menace to our society. They are a leach to the working class and my money is wasted on them.
The government's taxes is wasted on them.
It was easier destroying a town and city and never having to re build then it would be to take care of cattle for the next 30 years."
You are shocked from his remark. Your friends and home is in this city and town. How could he call them cattle? Like human lives are live stock ready for murder.
[[gun<-“That is your reasoning?”]]
[[blame<-“What about me? Was I meant to die with the others. Be the blame for all of this?]]
[[gun<-“None of this makes your actions right”]]
“You know to much. I was hoping to save you from all of this but I cannot.” He says with sorrow in his eyes.
You see the black shape emerge in his hands.
You have been so encapsulated in his eyes.
Mesmerized that you could barely speak.
You have trusted him for years.
He was your best friend the person that you depended on and trusted.
He still looks like the same Henry but his eyes have darkened.
It is like you are looking into the pit of his twisted soul.
How could he laugh and joke around for two years knowing that this would happen.
No wonder he was always telling you to move jobs and to get a job in Nowyr.
A tear rolls down your check as you look at Henry.
[[gun2<- Blink the tear away]]
“Yes. You were meant to be blamed for all of this.
It was going to be said that you lied and blackmailed your way into this job.
I would have told everyone that you are the reason I was fired and that it was a mistake to every fire me.
If I cannot have you then no one can.”
[[gun<-“You are sick in the head’]]
[[gun<-"I don't understand you anymore"]]
[[gun<-"I would have never taken the job if it meant that much to you"]]You can see his lips moving spilling more ungodly truths but your body has gone numb.
You do not want to hear it any more.
You watch helpless as he lifts the gun.
Tears streaming down his face. Even now when he is about to kill you he thinks he knows what is best for you.
Your pride flares and you scream “Don’t pretend that you are doing this for me”.
You rush forwards trying to stop him.
You must tell the rest of the world his and the government's awful deads.
You feel it ripping into your skin as a burning sensation spreads through your abdomen, as you hear the piercing boom of the gunshot.
Your hand instinctively goes to your stomach. You feel the warm sticky sensation that you know is your blood. While you sink to the floor, blinding pain rips through the burning sensation. It feels as though your body is on fire.
You stare up into Henry’s brown eyes speckled with blues and say…

How can someone that has committed such awful deeds, look so helpless?

The pain is so intense. Your body is on fire, you see the edges of blackness creeping into your vision as you feel your consciousness ebbing away.
You reach out and grab the gun, biting your lip, trying not to scream, as you cough up blood.
You feel the weight, heavy, in your hand. Wrapping your fingers around the hilt. Rolling onto your shoulder, you aim up.
You feel the tension of the trigger on your index finger.
You feel your finger tighten.
Think back to the bodies that were sprawled across the carpark, your eyes flare with anger and you pull the trigger tighter,

It took awhile for you to recover as your injuries healed.
The news caught hold of your story and soon the entire world knew.
It was a whirlwind how everything fell into place after the police found you.
After you showed them your hard drive and your stolen home computer was found in Henry’s shed.
Henry had all of the information on his laptop.
The United Nations joined together and overthrew the government.
Henry was declared a traitor and was never given a funeral.
You were forced to leave the country and go into the witness protection program as there were some members of the government that were not legally able to be convicted of their crimes.
<h1>!Congratulations you have solved the plot of the game and have lived to tell the tale!</h1>
The events of the day have left you exhausted and it is also getting quite late. Looking at the mess that is you house you realize how much work it would be to clean up if you weren’t going to evacuate with the rest of the citizens tomorrow morning. Before going to sleep you clean up your bedroom a bit and make sure to lock all doors and window of the house just to be sure.

Were the sensors broken, there was that one unlabeled light, where did the label go, why didn't I notice that light before, have I just been slacking of all this time, but the machines seemed normal the yesterday, but how do I know if they were normal I never noticed that light before maybe they were always off and I just didn. . ."
A loud noise coming from outside snaps you out of your panicked state, the noise sounded a lot like a gunshot when you think about it.

You look back at you bed but already know you won't be able to sleep anymore after this.

After waiting for about ten minutes you conclude that the coast is clear as you have seen no suspicious movement during that time. The risks of the radiation are to great you decide to go to Heyr, you gather your things and depart. The walk through the forest is extremely peaceful and you try to get there as fast as possible while making sure to avoid the rocks and tree roots. Eventually you get to the edge of the forest. While hiding in the bushes you take a few minutes to make sure that it is safe to proceed, during this time nothing happened and you did not see anybody. Confident that you can proceed you make you way to the supermarket you regularly use. <<if $ScHeyr == false>><<set $ScHeyr = true>> The sight of the empty store feels really strange to you. As you enter the store you notice that some of the window are broken and most of the stores isles are in complete disarray. There is almost nothing of value left in the store. Desperate to find something you want to check if the looters also raided the stores storage. After a quick sweep of the store you find the entrance to the storage next to an elavator. You try to open the door, but unfortunately it's locked. The upside of that could be that there might still be something of use in there.

You hit the door a couple more time and for some reason you know that the next one will open the door for sure. You hit the door again with full force and the door breaks open, however there is no time to congratulate yourself as the hallway past the door immediately turns into a flight of stairs. Your momentum carries you forward and you tumble down the stairs. When you stand up you feel bruised all over. (-10 max health, injured true)<</replace>><</link>>

With you haul of food you return to the forest and start the return trip. You make it to the woods as quickly as you can while taking some detours to throw off any possible pursuers. At the edge of the woods you once again stop to check whether or not you were followed. After determining that the coast is clear you strart the hike back.

You have a pretty good idea where you can find a water filter capable of cleaning irradiated water, you know the water filtration plant need to use those types of water filters as a precaution and there also has to be at least one spare at the plant. The filtration plant is near Noweyr, so it should take about the entirety of the day to get there find the filter and get back.
<<linkreplace "Go to the filtration plant.">><<include "findWaterFilter">><</linkreplace>>You start you hike to the plant, it is an exhausting walk but with the right amount of determination you finally get there. Now you just need to find the filter. You start to look around the plant and within the hour you have found the supply room. For some strange reason the door is unlocked which is strange as those kinds of rooms are usually locked. Cautiously you open the door and peek in the room, to you surprise nothing looks out of the ordinary. Quickly you start looking for the water filter, still a little suspicious about the unlocked door. After searching for about 30 more minutes you find what you were looking for, you put the water filter in you backpack and prepare to return home. While leaving the supply room a peculiar sound catches your attention. A sound similar the footsteps is coming from the otherside of the hall.
"Did they manage to find you? How did they know you would come to the filtration plant? Is it the same person as in the city or somebody new? Did they also find the cabin? Have they been spying on you?"
Thinking about it won't do you any good however, quietly you sneak away to the other side of the hallway. You make your way to the outside of the facility, for a brief moment you make sure that you had not been followed. As quick and quietly as possible you start making your way back to your cabin, while hiking you sometimes leave behind false tracks in order to throw of any possible pursuers. With the sun barely above the horizon you finally make it back to the cabin.
